EAL students can find learning new vocabulary  very tedious , so here’s an idea that can inject some excitement into the lesson.

It’s a memory game that’s easy to set up, offering scope for teachers and learners to be both creative and competitive.
Pre-teach the target language- I suggest nouns in context: classroom equipment/ food / animals etc.  Spread out 10  items or pictures  on a flat surface and give the students a couple of minutes to memorise the scene.  The students close their eyes while the teacher removes one of the items.  The students then have to guess what’s missing.

Get creative:
Add more items
Remove no items
Change items around the table.
Remove 2 or more items

Get competitive:
Let students add/remove items
Put the students into teams and award points
Have a prize for the winning team

This activity can roll on and on and generates lots of discussion
Enjoy!
